A couple of shots I took while in Texas Hill Country this summer.

This is from a State Park area called Pedernales Falls. It's where the Pedernales River flows downhill over large sandstone rock outcroppings, forming interesting rock shapes and pools of bright turquoise water. I was trying to get the photo to really show the color of the water, but it wasn't working out well until I shot through my sunglass lens, which was polarized.

All these pools had bass, pike and cichlids living in them. They were pretty clear.

This was a hummingbird I kept trying to shoot while I was staying at the house we rented, but he was just too fast. It wasn't until the day we left that I was able to get some photos of him, and even then I had to hide inside and shoot through the window. Little bugger.

The place was in a cool spot though. On a hill, a couple miles off the main road. There were a lot of deer on the property.

Enceladus' jets in action

Anyone who's been following my space photoblog, be sure to check out today's post.....there's some fantastic shots just in from this morning's flyby of Saturn's moon Enceladus posted.

About as wide as Arizona, Enceladus is the little moon with the big jets....in 2005 the Cassini mission discovered plumes of icy vapor continuously erupting from cracks in the moon's southern hemisphere. This expelled material consists of water ice with traces of sodium in it, as discovered during an earlier flyby this year, and may indicate a subsurface ocean or at least large reservoirs of liquid water beneath the moon's icy crust.

This latest flyby - the eighth so far of the mission - reveals a close look at Enceladus' terrain from a height of 1000 miles and got a few great shots of the plumes in action, spraying out of the deep fissures in the moon's surface.

Got one of those viral emails this morning.....you know the ones, subject is "Fwd: FW: FW: :: Cool photos" or something and there's a bunch of pics of pets in sugary cute poses and such that you've seen a hundred times over the years but for some reason someone you know has already forgotten them all and thinks they're hot off the press. Anyway, got one of those.

Figured I'd at least update a couple of them and make some lolz.

I'd put copyright notices on these, but I don't know who owns them. Casualties of teh internets. Sorry fellow photogs.

I have a gajillion photos on my computer with not a heck of a lot to do with them. I figure I'll scan through, and if I find one I like for some reason, I'll post it here.

Like, why not. Not doing anyone any good hiding on my hard drive. :)

This is one I shot last year at an office building downtown, where there's a large plaza with fountains. People like to hang out there on nice days on the weekend. There's a section where water jets erupt from holes in the concrete en masse....this little girl was having a great time "conducting" their performance. Made a nice photo op.
